About me

My name is Sander and I am a 21-year-old student currently studying Electrical Engineering in The Netherlands. Although I truly like what I do at university it is not my true passion. It might be a cliché, but my passion is travel!

As you can see on my map I like going to places not many people visit. Or even somewhat disputed countries. The reason for this is that I am very interested in global politics. However, I have always felt that the media does not cover the whole story… By that I mean the story of the regular people living in these countries that go about their daily lives.

Before visiting any country people (including me) always have some stereotypes in mind. However, from my own experience I can tell these stereotypes tend to be very wrong!

Through this blog I wish to show that people all around the world share the same values and ambitions, regardless of their nationality. Next to this, I wish to give people the confidence to travel to certain countries and share their amazing stories with other people.

Where I caught the ‘travel bug’

My first real adventure took place in 2012. I participated in an exchange program that my high school had set up. For two weeks a group of Indian students visited The Netherlands and stayed in my home and that of my classmates. Several months later I boarded a plane to Mumbai, where we got the experience of a lifetime. Here I caught the travel bug!

Unfortunately, I could not afford to go and travel indefintely, because I was still in high school. Regardless, I still tried to take one major trip every year. After graduating from high school I wanted to pursue a university degree. I think this will set me up well for life, but it limits my freedom to travel whenever I want.
